Design Group was formed in 1985 by designer Richard P. Spisto after more than 15 years of experience with large Architectural and Engineering firms in NYC.

After many years of providing traditional Architectural services working with a core group of design professionals and support staff, Mr. Spisto expanded Design Group’s service base in 1994 with the formation of American Specialty Builders to provide full Design/Build services to both its residential and commercial design clients.

The focus of Design Groups service base is to provide excellence in design and technical production while maintaining the flexibility for client relationships to be direct, interactive and relaxed through a mutual understanding of shared results.

Modern or traditional, the basis for any design is that it be as beautiful as it is efficient, that it’s sense of scale is equal to its proportions and that it enhances its new environment with a sense of belonging.

With the growing awareness of the need for renewable and environmentally friendly materials, contemporary sustainable design and incorporating energy efficient products into current designs, we are continually evaluating new products and systems to meet that end.

Construction and Construction Management services are offered to our design clients so that the intense personal interest we take in the Design phase continues into the Construction phase. Ultimately, this produces a quality build project that insures the integrity of our original design concept, adds value and meets our clients budgetary and aesthetic expectations.
